Tree Removal Questions, Answered Plainly

Questions

Answers to common questions

Who actually removes the tree if I use Gistexpress Tree Service?

An independent local provider does. Gistexpress Tree Service is a referral service, not a contractor. We take your request and route it to a provider in our network. That provider visits or reviews photos, gives you a written quote, and does the work. Referral, not contractor. Your agreement on price and scope is with the provider.

What should I expect when a provider comes to look at my tree?

The provider checks the tree's size, lean, health and distance from your house, fences and wires. They look at access for equipment and where debris can go. Then they explain the method, such as climbing or sectional cutting, and give a written quote. Ask what the price includes, including cleanup and hauling.

When is a tree an emergency?

Treat it as urgent if a tree or large limb has fallen on a house, car or power line, or blocks a driveway or road. Stay clear of any downed line and contact your utility. Then request a callback to check provider availability for emergency tree removal. Many providers can respond quickly after storms, but demand varies.

Is it safe to cut down a tree myself?

Small saplings are one thing. Large trees are another. Falling timber can swing, split or kick back in ways that are hard to predict. Trees near roofs, wires or neighbors carry added risk. Ladders and chainsaws together cause many injuries. If the trunk is thick or the tree is tall, hire a provider.

What does stump grinding involve?

Stump grinding uses a machine with a spinning cutting wheel to chew the stump into wood chips below ground level. It does not pull out the whole root system. Ask the provider if they will leave the chips or haul them away, and how deep they plan to grind.

Does the season change when tree work should happen?

Yes. Season sets the timing. Winter ground that is frozen can support heavy equipment without tearing up your lawn. Spring snowmelt can leave soil soft and muddy. Coastal storms in fall and winter raise demand for storm tree clearance, so scheduling can take longer. Dormant trees are also easier to assess. A provider can advise on your timing.

Will my homeowners insurance pay for tree removal?

It depends on your policy. Some policies may cover sudden damage, such as a tree that fell on your home during a storm. Removing a healthy or already dead tree that has not caused damage is often not covered. Check your policy or ask your insurer. Providers can often help document damage for a claim.

How can I tell if a tree might fall, and how do I prevent it?

Warning signs include a new lean, cracks in the trunk, large dead branches, mushrooms at the base, and roots lifting the soil. Freeze-thaw cycles and heavy snow can stress weak trees. Have a provider inspect any tree you doubt. Regular pruning and removing dead limbs early lower the chance of storm failure.
